First year advice from Fredrik Logevall

On February 17, 2016, The Washington Post editorial board urged President Barack Obama to take action in Libya. The next president will be faced with an increasingly unstable Middle East and will have to consider how to approach the region and how to handle specific areas such as Syria and Libya.

Last fall, the Miller Center hosted Fredrik Logevall, the Laurence D. Belfer Professor of International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School and Professor of History at Harvard University, in a discussion entitled “Will Syria Be Barack Obama’s Vietnam?” Logevall is the author of Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam, which won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for History. In this clip, Logevall presents two specific pieces of advice for the next president.
